Recommended Hardware
The HA community maintains a list of recommended hardware Zigbee Home Automation scroll to: Recommended Zigbee radio adapters and modules
- I am using: Conbee II by dresden elektronik. (In the meantime, Phoscon also supplies the Conbee III and another rPi variant).
- MSL is using: Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus. Can be bought at AliExpress or local shops like [1]. Personal recommendation: local is fast delivery, more expensive and more reliable, far is slow delivery, cheap and quality is questionable).
To be investigated
- Some of the sensors/lights might be quite far away from the Zigbee module. In such cases a USB extension cable is recommended so that you can place the dongle a little bit further away from the HA server and have less signal interference. In my setup I haven't experienced problems (yet).
- According to protocol any non battery powered device should act a a mesh repeater. Even so there seem to exist dedicated Zigbee range extenders. e.g. IKEA sells a signal repeater, but not in the Netherlands.
