Micrometer (outer - buiten)
This equipment is safety category 6: Other equipment with no limits.
This equipment is Noise Category 3: Can be used at all hours. No limits.
Handle with care.
This is a precision tool with exact dimensions and straightness.
That means: handle it gently, don't hammer on it or use it as a crowbar and so on.
(if you need a crowbar - these are wonderful for that!)
It is very important that if you accidentally drop it or think it may be out of line
- either mark the tool very clearly...
- or report this to the mailing list...
...so that your fellow makers do not ruin their work.
We have several micrometers indicators in the metal woodshop. Consult youtube for countless videos on how to use them. Or ask someone to show you.
At the very least: Be very gentle with these. They are fragile and not cheap. If anything - never over-tighten; use the outermost 'clicking'/torque limiter to apply exactly the right, repeatable pressure.
See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-cm_ocn9p4 -- and note the use of the ratched at 1:26.
This movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQT6RSNN9sA is a bit longer - and also nicely explains the vernier & calibration concepts.
Wooden box micrometer
Try to be extra, extra, gentle with this one; and if you do not need insane accuracy; use the one from the gray box.
