Tools
A list of all the Tools we have documented; or by group:
- Some of the larger Wood making tools
- Some of the Metal making tools
- Some of the more fragile Precision measuring tools
- Some of the small / easily misplaced Categorie:Small tools and things.
- Some of the Welding related tools
- Some of the CNC tools, such as 3D printers, vinyl cutters and routers.
- All tools for Electronics and soldering that we've documented sofar.
We have quite a few more tools. These are just not (yet) documented. Ask on the mailing list to arrange for in-situ instructions and help. Most tools are owned (donated, bought) by the Stichting Makerspace Leiden; some are on long term loan.
Report issues to the mailing lists. Always. No exceptions.
Safety and Noise
Safety is not optional. Following the Rules and Instructions is mandatory (and generally a good idea if you value your hands/legs/eyes and what not). We have a few machines that will happily rip your arm off or blast your eye out.
Read this list of all tools that have safety instructions at least once. Know that some tools require permission or instruction prior to use. In those cases - just reading the instructions is not enough. You need to have explicit permission from the Space to use these.
Equipment in the highest noise category (1) cannot be used after before 07:00 and 19:00 (these are machines which require earprotecting too).
When using one but highest noise category (2) in the evenings - do consider our neighbors. If you need earmuffs - you are probably too loud.
Some machines that require dust or chip control and it is vital that you turn it on. For others it is either very important or strongly recommended . The background is either the risk of hot/smoldering chips in the bottom of the machine (e.g. in the Vlakbank) or the risks of dust collecting and becoming a fire/explosion and health risk.
Procedures and Principles
General principles:
- Be excellent & try to not be on fire.
- Always leave the space cleaner than you found it.
- All tools have a place -- so put tools back where you found them.
- If it is a mess; speak up & clean up. If you find a machine in a mess; clean it or do no use it. If you use it - it becomes your sole responsibility to clean things up. No ifs. No buts.
- If things run out - replenish them, reorder them or at the very least report it to the mailing lists. Receipts can go into the jar (with your name on it) or to the Hans.
We have some procedures to manage the MakerSpace such as:
and see this page for a complete list.
